12.06.2007. Xeffort 1.2.21 is out, supporting IVF 10.0. Other changes are mostly minor.

Yes, I'm aware that a year has passed since the previous release - sorry folks, lack of spare time (combined with a mild decrease in enthusiasm, hopefully cureable). The major new item was supposed to be a 2-D graphing module XFTGraph, but it's not ripe enough to be included (sorry Neels). I hope (but can't promise) that the progress will be better in the time to come.

The new VS2005 Premier Partner Edition is not supported yet. Lack of its resource editor is a serious limitation anyway. An option of a external resource editor will be considered later.

31.05.2006. Xeffort 1.2.20 supports IVF 9.1 and VS.NET 2005. The changes also include support for multiple IVF/VS.NET installations, one major and several minor bug fixes.

17.05.2006. I'm back from US (where I finally met Mike). New release of Xeffort compatible with IVF 9.1/VS2005 will be  issued Real Soon Now (unless I face another MS incompatibility in VS2005). Thanks to all who contacted me and made improvements (including bug discoveries and fixes).

01.03.2006. Xeffort 1.2.19 is refreshed with forgotten updated documentation on XF2C and XLoadMenu - sorry.

27.02.2006. Xeffort 1.2.19 is released, containing mostly bug fixes - see Release Notes. The port is nowhere near to be completed, and the plans for new features will not be realized soon. Also, old XFT 1.2.14 is also available for download, as an unsupported alternative for CVF 6.0/6.1 users.

I will be on a business trip to U.S. (Minneapolis) from March 4 to mid-May, so please don't expect urgent replies to any questions; even if I could devote some time to reply, I won't have a VF compiler nearby. If the remaining time permits, I'll try to update Fortran portion of the site with few goodies.

.12.2005. Just to let you know that this site and myself are alive. The reason for a long silence was an undergoing port (and yet unfinished) port of Xeffort by myself and Mike Gaitens to Salford and Lahey compilers. In the meantime, another CVF/IVF release will be done, with some bug fixes.

Old DialogTest sample is updated with IVF version. It is recommended that you use XeffortLite instead, and still more recommended to use the full version.

27.10.2005. Xeffort 1.2.18 is released - see Release Notes. XTabEditor sample is updated with a MRU list, and few other samples fixed for minor errors (calling a function is not allowed in IVF9).

Mike Gaitens published some nice Xeffort stuff on his web page ».

06.10.2005. Here is the new version 1.2.17 of Xeffort Library , along with supporting XSciCalc sample. Now, you also have an opportunity to register and receive notification about new releases. Check out Release Notes for list of fixes and improvements.

28.09.2005. New XZoom sample demonstrates how to use new XSetCanvas and more. XeffortLite is fixed so that it contains XFLOGM 1.0 (for those who still need it).

26.09.2005. C'mon people, you could at least say "you stupid, have you noticed that your library does not work?" . Few egregious bugs from 1.2.15 are now fixed in new 1.2.16, and I hope you still trust me (as usual, the most severe bugs come out of carelessness and are simple to fix, but they didn't have to persist for a month).

The new version also brings new XSetCanvas routine (an accompanying XZoom sample will be out soon), enhancement in XMessageBox, and support for initialization of list controls from the resource editor. See Release Notes.

In 1.2.17, I plan to add some more introductory info for beginners, support for Date/Time controls and try to revive compilation under 6.0/6.1. Please use the forum to express your wishes/complaints/questions etc.

23.09.2005. Xeffort.com now has a user forum, still in a very experimental stage.

New release 1.2.16 will be out soon. Apart from few bug fixes (XMessageBox icons... sigh), planned new features are XSetCanvas, which mimics QuickWin SetWindowConfig and eases up window scrolling significantly, and support for list/combo controls initializated in rresource editor.

03.09.2005. The entire Xeffort team goes to a deserved 2-week vacation to Corfu . I can't promise a postcard, but maybe few pictures later... You know, programming is not everything in life.

31.08.2005. Welcome to the new site of the library you used to know as XFT, now renamed to Xeffort. The reasons for name change are:

There already exists another (and more popular) XFT library (X FreeType interface library)

Domain XFT.com was already taken

XFT was acronym for rather stupid name of "eXtended Fortran Types". That was actually retrofitted to the acronym, which... never mind...

It sounds better. and is similar to the old name

It can be retrofitted to acronym of "eXtremely Easy Fantastic gui's in FORTran"

Its developers have put an Xtreme effort to assemble it.

The Xeffort library is - needless to say - fully backwards-compatible with XFT (except for WM_KEY* handlers as described in Release notes). The setup, however, requires removal of the old XFT version if it's encountered. All the Samples are refreshed and verified with IVF. (Fortran section is not updated though, but it will be soon; however, Win32 FAQ page is recreated.)

09.08.2005. After 8 months of time wasting, I'm irreversibly & definitively back.

XFT 1.2.14 is out. The most important news are support for IVF9.0, AppWizard for VS.NET (IVF release) with enhanced options. Most of Mike Gaitens's changes are incorporated in this addition as well. Check out release notes.

Also, this will probably be the last release of XFT. No, that's not bad news. Why? Stay tuned and you'll find out soon .

10.06.2005. Thank you all for your patience and support during my soldier days. They're not over yet - mid-August is the expected target.

Special thanks go to Mike Gaitens, who improved some of ListView support, now officially released in new XFT 1.1.12. The main news in new release is toolbar support, which I hope you will like.

30.11.2004. Two good news and a bad one:

XFT 1.1.11 is released, biggest new feature being support for Listview controls. Also, there are two new samples - XTabEditor and LVTest.

I finally defended my M.Sc. thesis (over here, you can't skip that stage and go directly to Ph.D).

Ah, yes, the homeland dusted off my file and called me to the military service (which I'm not old enough to serve), so I'll have to spend the next 8 months there . I will be online occasionally but don't expect me to do any serious work.

05.10.2004. No-one has noticed so far that default MDI application doesn't work?! Guess the user base is not too large yet - so, here's new XFT 1.0.10 along with release for IVF 8.1 (.021). Samples are not yet updated (i.e. .vfproj files added) for IVF 8.1 - will be done soon.

Oh, yes, Tijana and I got married on Sep 25. I've put few pictures from the wedding on about page in case you're curious.

23.07.2004. As a bonus before my well-deserved vacation, here's astonishing & absolutely bug-free XFT 1.0.8.

XFT Release for Intel Visual Fortran is all ready on my side (modulo goddam AppWizard). Yet, we will all have to wait until a tiny fix on an issue called 245385. Hello Steve...

26.06.2004. XFT 1.0 RC7 is available. Still no news about release for IVF.

I'd be grateful if someone has a backup copy of Win32 FAQ page, as most of it got irretrieveably lost during the fight with FrontPage, and I'm lazy to write it again.

27.05.2004. According to E.C.Raymond's maxim "Release Early, Release Often»" here's XFT 1.0 RC6 (more bug fixes, in case you were in doubt). As a bonus, there's also XContextHelp sample, which demonstrates use of context help in dialog-based applications (driven by means of fixed DLG_HELP callback).

11.05.2004. XFT 1.0 RC5 is released, with several bug fixes.

Good news for Intel Visual Fortran users: XFT will be ported to IVF 8 so that the Setup is as seamless as for CVF...

...and the bad news: A bug (actually, two) in IVF .048 means that XFT will not work. In theory, I could provide workarounds, but I'd prefer to wait a while since Steve promised that it will be fixed Real Soon.

11.05.2004. XFT 1.0 RC4 is released, with several bug fixes.

I'm losing the endless battle between human and Microsoft -- after downgrading to FrontPage 2002 SP3, all shared borders on my site got screwed. After a 3-hour battle I think I managed to get them right, but please report if you find any problems with links or appearance.

06.04.2004. XFT 1.0 RC3 is released, with several bug fixes. Few samples related with XFT on QuickWin are added.

12.02.2004. XFT 1.0 RC2 is released, with several bug fixes

26.01.2004. In the rush with XFT Release I forgot to upload the final (hopefully ultimate) version of XFLOGM 1.0. Note that XFT Full contains XFLOGM 2.0.

20.01.2004. FINALLY! I thought this day would never come...

I am pleased to announce XFT Library 1.0, currently in status of "release candidate 1". XFT Library is set of tools for fast and convenient writing of full-blown Win32 applications using CVF 6.x.

08.08.2003. In case you need me, have in mind that I'm on well-deserved vacation until September 1 .

04.08.2003. After a while I found some time to devote to maintenance of these pages. All samples are updated to reflect recent changes/bug fixes. Please let me know if you find any (bug, not sample ). There are two new samples on XFT Page, and XFT Lite and Full source & documentation is updated.

22.05.2003. Modeless/tabbed dialogs, screwed in the last XFLOGM, fixed.

26.04.2003. QWToolbar sample now has tooltips as well.

10.03.2003. Few additions to XFLOGM.

MenuDialog sample, illustrating dialog subclassing, added to "Miscellaneous" page.

08.03.2003. I'm ashamed because this page is so rarely updated; to keep you tuned, minor fixes in XFLOGM are added, and new source of XFT Full is uploaded, as well as XFT Hello World sample. Documentation about XFT message handlers is complete, so I need just to assemble it.

22.11.2002. XFT Page has new sample, XNetSend. New source of XFT Full is there also. No, no documentation as yet, thanks for asking.

14.11.2002. No, this site is not closed (although you might think so). I'm just burried with job and the updates are minor.

New version of ThreadDlg, with progres bar is here; also, there are minor fixes in XFTGDI.

20.06.2002. Fixed bug in XFTGDI::XSaveBitmap; iDepth argument now works. Also, entire source code of XFT is downloadable now, although without documentation.

You can find Tim Hatamian's AutoArrays module for autosizing arrays in Miscellaneous Samples section.

15.05.2002. "Simple MAPI" (to be distinguished from COM-style "Extended MAPI") module & sample is available on headers page.

12.05.2002. Finally... XFT Lite (XFTGDI+XFTFile) released as it should be. You'll have to wait for a while for a full release. I bet you'll like it if you like to develop good Win32 GUIs quickly and cleanly.

13.04.2002. I haven't updated my home page for a long time. Actually, I did do a lot of work (almost finished as always) but uploading to geocities became a nightmare since they stopped FTP access for free sites. Guess I'll move the site soon.

Still another fix to XFLOGM 1.0 improves handling to tabbed dialogs.

03.01.2002. I shall never publish untested code anymore. I shall never publish untested code anymore. I shall never publish untested code anymore. I shall never...

HTMLHelp fixed. It's now 1 byte longer than previous version... and it works now.

XFT? Who mentioned XFT? Me? No, you must have confused me with someone else.

15.12.2001. Grumble... it seems that I can't manage to add something without screwing something else. When adding DLG_ICON to XFLOGM, I introduced a bug with which the image couldn't be reset to zero. Fixed...

11.12.2001. Headers section is updated with HTMLHelp module for connecting Fortran applications with new Windows HTML Help system (.chm).

Hopefully last version of XFLOGM 1.0 is released, with few bugs fixed and support for icon controls and buttons.

29.11.2001. News are new on this page. QuickWin toolbar sample is added to miscellaneous stuff. Also, I did some redesign of the web.

I finished bugging phase of XFLOGM2, which is actually just a subset of XFT. The final beta release will, as always, depend on amount of my spare time. Most difficult would be, as always, writing the documentation. XFT will be boundable to any existing project (QuickWin or Win32 application)... but more about that when released.
